Community Resources

Community resources are another option for you if campus resources do not fit your needs. Unlike campus sources, sources found in the community are not limited and could offer more. Here are a few resources:

Public Transportaion

  • Public Busses -If you are planning to commute using the bus, ask your school or the bus company whether they offer discounted prices for student bus passes. Discounted prices will also pertain to other types of transportation listed below
  • Shuttles
  • Trolleys
  • Subways
  • Taxi Cabs

Help Centers/Programs

  • Suicide/Crisis
  • Sex Abuse
  • Poison
  • Help line
  • Health Centers - Depending on where you look in your community, there will be health centers that offer low cost or free services.
  • Intimate Partner Violence
  • 12-Step/Self Help programs such as
    1. Alcoholic Anonymous
    2. Sex and Love Anonymous
    3. Spenders Anonymous
    4. All Addictions Anonymous

The programs/centers that are listed above will usually offer a hotline for you to call. This hotline is open 24 hours, 7 days a week.

    1. Depending on the community’s phone book, it will offer information that includes:
      1. Locations for disasters and how to prepare for them
      2. Government, State, and City & County Offices
      3. Residential and Business phone numbers
